Looks and styles in vinyl
Your imagination only limits you! Since vinyl follows current trends, you can get anything you desire, from gray, reclaimed, or whitewashed wood look floors to textures such as wire-brushed, hand scraped, weathered, and distressed. Tiles can resemble pebbles or beach sand and, while marble, granite, slate or terrazzo, and other stones come at a cost, they won’t here. While you’re at it, have some fun with stripes and colorful graphic tile patterns, perfect, especially for playrooms.
Two types of flooring construction
A layered product, sheet vinyl has either fiberglass or felt backing. It’s essential to be aware of the differences because that affects the installation method. A felt backing can only be installed with the glue-down process so the edges won’t curl. It also needs acclimation for at least 24 hours to minimize movement to adjust to temperature changes, so felt-backed vinyl isn’t recommended for rooms prone to moisture.
The other is fiberglass, and often preferred construction, which is sturdier and keeps the material lying flat; thus, there are no curling issues. That means you have another installation technique: the loose lay where the product hovers over the subfloor without the required adhesive. A fiberglass backing also doesn’t need acclimation and has a more resilient, comfortable, and cushioned feel underfoot.
