Easy care is one of the many wondrous benefits of luxury vinyl tile or plank.
Both tile and plank, the two forms of luxury vinyl, only require regular sweeping and periodic mopping. Low maintenance doesn't mean "no maintenance," however.
Just a few simple things will keep your vinyl floors in top shape. Then you can count on them looking great and performing well for 25 years.
Why regular sweeping is so important
If possible, do it every day with a soft broom. Get into corners and under cabinets–any place where dirt can hide.
Both vinyl plank and tile-sized pieces, sometimes called LVT flooring, can become scratched or pitted. Pitted is when the dirt embeds; then, it's much more difficult to clean.
You might also want to vacuum once a week to pick up anything the sweeping missed.
Mop with a non-abrasive floor cleaner
The mop should be damp, not wet. It's best to use a manufacturer-approved cleaner.
You should also avoid waxy, shine-promoting cleaners. Instead, luxury vinyl is layered and, at the top, is a clear urethane finish.
The finish adds extra strength and shine. Unfortunately, a waxy cleaner could damage the finish and dull your luxury vinyl plank or tile.
Removing stubborn stains
As is often said, prevention is better than cure. That said, wipe spills up immediately, so they don't set.
If something stains, it can often be removed with a baking soda/water solution, a little nail polish remover, or rubbing alcohol. Scuffs are removed with some WD-40.
Discuss this with your flooring expert. You need to use the right product on your LVP or tile-sized pieces.
